      Exactly. The value has outweighed the costs, though it's been close. My perspective is focused on how their processes for dealing with hosts and guests, especially hosts interactions with guests is off-kilter.

    I've been a host for a few years, providing a single glamping stay. It was purely minor income top-up and to see if a permanent business is worth building. I've always been meticulous in what I provide, am usually close by whenever guests need me, and I work at giving a unique and memorable stay. Never any problem guests, and minor damage is regarded as par for the course.....sh1t happens. I've never had less than 5* from all. But I'm increasingly pissed at Abnb, as they now pester me for my tax codes. I get that I'll have to pay income/business tax, but I don't need Abnb to act as part of the taxation system's radar. Looking for alternatives now during the closed season.

    What pisses me off is that customers get charged a cleaning fee for the host "to pay for professional cleaning" (so we are told) when the host pockets the cleaning fee and does the cleaning himself, often poorly. The first and last time I used Airbnb, i was accused of staining the bed sheets when they were already stained when I got there. You end up having to take pictures and spend hours on the phone just to defend yourself. The worst part was, this host broke every single rule he imposed onto his own guests, and then the M-Fer left me a review saying I didn't respect the rules!! Never again. To top it all, Airbnb contributes greatly to the housing crisis. Now I always stay at Hotels. With last minute deals Apps, it's 3 times cheaper than Airbnb. It's safer, cleaner, has customer service 24/7 with 4 stars amenities. And my bed sheets aren't stained and get changed everyday. F*ck Airbnb 🖕🤬

    • @dhalliday
      @dhalliday 4 месяца назад

      Exactly: the host got away with breaking all of the rules and was even able to punish you, even though you already paid for cleaning, etc. Ridiculous.

    We stopped using Airbnb after the host accused us of multiple hundred Euro of damages that were not possible and somehow had as "proof" an invoice dated the day we left from a local business that supposedly managed to make a major repair to the property. I even consulted an Airbnb host I knew if the complaint could possibly have been legit. It was a scam and thankfully Airbnb sided with us, but the stress was enough to convince us to stick with hotels from then in.

    • @dhalliday
      @dhalliday 4 месяца назад

      Oh wow, that's the scary/professional version of the $200 fee we got for a broken lamp that had to have cost $25. Airbnb ultimately sided with us as well, but it was not worth the hassle!

    I started Airbnbing a spare bedroom in my house a few months ago and used my experience as a guest to make my guests stay as good as possible. I know when they are checking out they are thinking of all the things they have to do for the next leg of their journey. The last thing they want to be worrying about is instructions from the host.. I tell my guests that the only check out rule is to close the door when they leave. I also don't charge a cleaning fee.

    I never use an air bnb. It’s not worth the possible liability. My daughter used one on the beach. The house had an awesome shell display each guest added to on their stay. Her daughters smashed every shell in the display. She had to pay 2 thousand dollars for destroying the shell display. They really did destroy it. And I agree with the owner. But why put yourself in arch a vulnerable position.
